Sun, Syni and Zheji: the comparison I shared

In my October 18 post about Petro Zheji, I placed the English sun, Sanskrit Surya and Albanian syni / syri alongside one another. The idea I described was the Sun as an eye of heaven: a connection through an image as well as through sound.

I then added a second set of comparisons: dielli / djali, sun / son and Sonne / Sohn. In the post, I presented these as examples of an interpretation I attributed to Zheji: that similarities between words preserve older symbolic knowledge.

A symbolic comparison and a word history answer different questions

There is a factual distinction to keep visible. The American Heritage Dictionary traces English sun through Old English sunne and son through sunu, assigning them to different Indo-European roots. Their shared modern pronunciation does not make them the same historical word.

Likewise, Duden records separate histories for German Sonne and Sohn. Resemblance alone does not establish the proposed family relationship.

Editorial note: This is an adaptation of Valon’s social post, not a verified quotation from a specific page of Zheji’s work. The symbolic interpretation is preserved as such; the comparison is not presented as proof that these words derive from Albanian.
