Seeking support from parents can be disappointing when they do not understand what you need.

In the original caption, I spoke about the disappointment of looking to your parents for emotional support and not finding it. My main point was that seeking help does not have to wait until they understand.

The caption uses broad language about Albanian families. I would not turn that into a diagnosis of an entire community. Families differ. What matters here is the particular relationship you are living with and the support you need.

Ask for support from parents clearly

“Understand me” can carry many different wishes. Maybe you want someone to listen without interrupting. Maybe you want them to stop dismissing a painful experience. Or you want practical help finding a professional.

Putting the request into a sentence can clarify what you need, even if the other person cannot give it. For example: “I need you to listen for a moment without telling me to forget it.” You do not need to prove every detail of your experience in a family argument before taking your distress seriously.

Let support come from more than one place

A trusted person can listen. A qualified professional can help assess what support fits your situation. The NHS overview of talking therapies explains different approaches and what therapy can involve. It is information, not a claim that its England-based access routes apply where you live.

You can ask a local doctor or qualified mental health professional about available care. This is not a diagnosis or an instruction to cut off your family. It is permission to stop making one person’s response the only doorway to support.

You may still wish for a better conversation with your parents. You can keep that wish and take a step towards help at the same time.
