This TikTok post looks back at our original dua.com television advert from 2020. In the caption, I describe the idea simply: connect Albanians wherever they are, without borders or divisions. Prishtina and Tirana. Kosovo and the diaspora. One neighbourhood and the next.
What I like about those examples is that distance means different things. Sometimes two people live in different countries. Sometimes they live close to each other and still have no natural way to meet. A connection product has to consider both.
Start with the people, then explain the technology
A television advert has limited time to make an idea understandable. The starting point here was a human situation: people who might want to meet each other were separated by geography or by the limits of their existing circles.
For anyone explaining a product, that is a useful exercise. Describe the situation before listing the features. Who is trying to reach whom? What makes that difficult? What would a useful introduction make possible? These questions give a technical product a reason to matter.
A shared starting point leaves room for different lives
Shared language or a connection to Albanian culture can give a conversation somewhere to begin. It does not mean two people have the same values, expectations or plans. They still need the space to discover those things themselves.
The old advert is part of the company’s story, not a current feature guide or a claim about how many relationships it created. The idea it records remains easy to understand: give people a way to find one another, whether the distance is a national border or simply a circle of friends that has never overlapped.
