It took me more than two years to get used to life in Kosovo. That is the specific experience I shared in my video about returning. A connection to the country does not mean the adjustment will be immediate.
My experience is not a timetable for your return
In the original post, I said that how long someone has lived in Switzerland or Germany can matter when they return to Kosovo. For me, getting properly used to life there took two-plus years. I did not give a date by which someone else should feel settled.
That distinction matters if you are considering a return. My experience can give you another perspective, but it cannot tell you how your move will turn out.
Three questions to make the decision more concrete
If you are planning to return, try moving the conversation from whether Kosovo is “better” to what your everyday life would involve:
- What would a normal working week look like?
- Who could you turn to locally when something is unfamiliar?
- Which expectations come from living there, and which come from visits?
Use those questions to explore your own situation. My experience adds one concrete point to the conversation: settling in took me more than two years. Give that detail its proper weight without turning it into a rule.
For another side of belonging, read about finding community while living abroad.
