What would you like someone to understand without a long explanation? Your language? Your family? What it means to belong to more than one country? That was the human question behind my November 2023 thoughts about dua and the diaspora.
“Someone from my community” can mean different things to different people. It helps to put your own meaning into words. Do you want to speak Albanian together? Share celebrations? Understand each other’s relationship with home?
Those questions reveal more than a broad label. Two people can have the same background and want different lives. They can also have different backgrounds and find important things in common. Familiarity is a beginning for a conversation, not its conclusion.
If a shared background matters to you, say so respectfully. Then stay curious about the actual person. Ask what they value, where they feel at home and what kind of partnership they want. Give them the same room to ask you.
The purpose of making an introduction easier should be to help people get to know each other. This old recording captures that ambition. It does not establish today’s product features or guarantee a particular relationship. The next part still belongs to the two people having the conversation.
