In Berlin, I connected a monument with the League of Prizren and the events of 1878. My original caption put the league three weeks after the Berlin gathering. That sequence was wrong.
The League of Prizren came first: it was founded on 10 June 1878. The Congress of Berlin opened on 13 June, three days later.
The two dates to keep separate
- 10 June 1878 — Prizren: the league’s founding date is recorded in the Kosovo Prime Minister’s anniversary account.
- 13 June 1878 — Berlin: the opening of the congress is documented by the German Historical Museum.
This matters because the order changes the story. The founding in Prizren cannot be described as an event that happened weeks after the opening of the congress. It preceded it.
What the original caption does not establish
I also invoked a statement denying Albanian nationhood. Without a verified original text and attribution, I am not reproducing it here as a historical quotation. A striking line needs the same checking as a date.
Nor does a monument in a present-day travel clip, on its own, establish where a particular nineteenth-century statement was made. The clip records my reflection in Berlin; the linked sources support the chronology.
Keep the journey and correct the history
The connection between Berlin and Albanian history was what made me raise the subject during the trip. Keeping that interest means being willing to correct the retelling.
You can watch the original post with this correction in mind. The caption remains part of the record of what I said; it should not be used as evidence for the order of events.
