Return to your own life as a tourist

I lived in Zurich for ten years. Coming back as a tourist, I found myself looking at familiar places differently. Some things felt as though I was seeing them for the first time.

Perhaps the city has not changed. Perhaps I have. I am slowing down, looking more closely and rushing less. That change of pace made me notice how beautiful the city is.

It made me think that we could all return to our own lives as tourists sometimes: look at the people, places and everyday moments as though they were new to us.

Perhaps the life we are searching for is already the life we have. We may simply need another perspective.
