At Prague’s astronomical clock, I stopped at the twelve zodiac signs. The time was only one part of what I was looking at. A familiar landmark becomes a different experience when you stay with one detail.

Prague City Tourism describes the clock’s calendar and zodiac imagery as part of the monument. Those details give a visitor more to look at than the hour alone.

For this stop, the interest was in the object itself: its pictures, symbols and layers of information. A familiar landmark becomes more interesting when you pause over one part of it instead of moving straight to the next photograph.

Another Prague note looks at Wenceslas Square and the history behind an ordinary evening.
