An Aldi stop in Berlin, and suddenly the 1990s are back. My question in the clip is for anyone who remembers going shopping with their parents and getting a pudding as a treat.
It is a small moment from the Europe trip: a supermarket aisle, familiar packaging and a memory that needs very little explanation. You can travel to another city and find something there that takes you straight back to childhood.
Not every travel memory comes from a museum or a landmark. Sometimes it is an ordinary shop. For those of us who grew up between languages and places, those everyday details can carry their own sense of home.
