A routine while looking for work can give your priorities a place before the next job arrives.

In this reply, I argued that a routine matters especially when you do not have a job. I suggested making room to get up, move, read, learn and look for work. The point was to give the day a direction before everything else is settled.

A routine does not guarantee employment. It can be a way to decide what you want to do with the time that is yours, within the circumstances and responsibilities you have.

Make a routine while looking for work realistic

Start with a manageable outline. Give your job search a place, then make space for something you want to learn and something outside the search itself. You might also leave time for a conversation or an ordinary task that needs doing.

Keep it realistic. A schedule that ignores caring responsibilities, limited resources or your current capacity is not a useful measure of effort. Begin with what you can actually return to.

Review actions without judging your worth

At the end of the day, look at what you did: an application improved, a message answered, a skill practised. Notice what needs a different approach tomorrow. The answer from an employer is not entirely in your hands, so keep that separate from the work you completed.

My invitation was to create a routine while life is still unsettled. It does not need to look impressive. It needs to give your own priorities a place in the next day.
