A successful year should feel like your own life while you are living it.

When I shared my rules for a successful 2026, I started with something that rarely appears in a list of ambitions: stay more private. Stop living for an audience. Live your own life instead of copying someone else’s.

That can sound strange coming from someone who shares ideas online. For me, the distinction is between sharing something useful and arranging your whole life around how it will look to strangers.

Define a successful year through daily choices

My list also included working well, staying grounded, moving your body, praying or meditating, and being kind. These are directions, not a competition to build the most impressive routine.

Pick one part of your day that has become a performance. Perhaps you reach for the camera before enjoying a moment, or accept plans because you want to be seen there. Try giving that moment back to yourself. You can enjoy something without producing evidence of it.

Make one rule visible in your day

Choose one rule and decide what it means in practice this week. “Less drama” might mean leaving a pointless argument. “Work well” might mean finishing one important task before opening social media. “Be kind” might mean listening without preparing your reply.

At the end of the week, ask whether your actions reflected the life you wanted to live. A successful year has to feel like your life while you are living it, not only when you describe it afterwards.
