In a stitched video, I disagreed with a comparison between Kosovo’s relationship with Albania and its relationship with Finland. I said so respectfully, but firmly: to me, this comparison misses the shared Albanian identity at the centre of the discussion.

I spoke about going to Albania to celebrate Flag Day. Describing that simply as a tourist visit leaves out what the flag and the occasion mean to me as an Albanian from Kosovo. In the recording, I called Albania the mother of all Albanians. That is how I expressed my sense of belonging.

The date behind Flag Day

Albania declared independence in Vlora on 28 November 1912, as documented by the National Historical Museum. This historical anniversary provides context for the celebration mentioned in my response; the argument about belonging is my own.
