Starting an agency: the first conversations matter

In Regensdorf, near Zurich, I went back to the place where my journey with MIK Group began. Remembering those early days brought me back to a simple question: how do you find the first people willing to trust you?

I approached local businesses, distributed flyers and offered help with websites and search visibility. I also contacted people through professional networks such as LinkedIn and Xing. It involved direct conversations and explaining what we could do for a business.

The first clients did not come from having a finished success story. They came while we were still building one. Each project was an opportunity to deliver something useful, learn and earn the confidence to take the next step.

That is the part I would emphasise to someone starting an agency: get close to the businesses you want to serve. Understand their needs and make your offer clear. Looking back at revenue milestones can be motivating, but the beginning was much more ordinary: approaching people, offering a service and doing the work.
